Summary | SUMMARY The Director of Operations is responsible for the daily management of air and ground operations for the company system wide. This position is responsible for daily cost control for the operation which includes monitoring of and managing to the operating budget. The Director of Operations plans and maintains appropriate staffing levels and workforce utilization to meet all customer requirements within budgeted costs. The Director of Operations maintains a 99% on time performance level, insures the training, proper use, and deployment of company mandated technology such as dispatch, logistics management systems, GPS, and real time track and trace and bar code scanners. This position is responsible for staff performance including the review and completion of performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, wage recommendations and staff development. This responsibility includes coordinating training needs for the division. This position is responsible for all aspects of fleet management and asset preservation. The Director of Operations recommends changes to fleet size, type of vehicles required and timing for replacement of vehicles. The Director of Operations monitors the services provided by all employees and third party operational vendors to ensure all customer expectations and contractual and regulatory requirements are met. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Full ownership of the operation’s profit and loss (P & L). Measurable, continuous improvement is required. Ensures site compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including, but not limited to, DOT, TSA, FAA, hazmat, and HIPAA by establishing and maintaining appropriate training and verification processes. Facilitate company growth by successfully on-boarding new customers and new business for existing customers. Review daily on-time performance and other performance measures to identify and resolve all performance issues timely. Ensure proper staffing levels to meet all customer requirements. Personnel management, e.g., hiring, training, disciplinary actions, and termination, in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and in compliance with all company policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with the company standards for electronic POD capture using the company’s hand held device. 100% scanner compliance is the goal. Cost planning, control, approval, and reduction. Fleet management. Contract with vendors as required to meet customer requirements and to improve operational efficiencies. Communicate effectively and timely across departments and levels of the organization regarding operational plans, changes, and needs. Create, review and coordinate all training needs for the operation. Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned. |
Skills/Requirements | QUALIFICATIONS Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with the regulatory environment of a trucking and/or last-mile delivery company is required. Familiarity with regulations including DOT, TSA, FAA, hazmat, and HIPAA is a minimum requirement. Required to hold a valid driver’s license from the state of residence. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE A minimum of three years of management level experience with P&L responsibility is required. Relevant education and training are preferred, in addition to the minimum management level experience requirement. LANGUAGE SKILLS Above average communication skills are required, including verbal and written, across media including e-mail, telephone, letters, and face-to-face. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discount interest commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percents. REASONING ABILITY The Site Operations Manager must be an analytical thinker and an effective problem solver. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw optimal conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables and to instruct others of vital information they require to perform effectively in their roles.
